CREATION OF COLUMN SCHEDULE AND DRAWING TEMPLATE USING AUTOCAD

Introduction of Tools:

To create a Column schedule and to draw Template, the main tools used in AutoCAD are Line, Text, Annotations etc.,

LINE:

  • Command used is ‘L’ or line. It can be easily evoked from ribbon, tool bar and menu bar
  • It is the most common and widely used command
  • It is drawn by specify the starting point and endpoint using the cursor on the workspace or drawing area

ANNOTATION OBJECTS:

  • Annotation objects include dimensions, notes, and other types of explanatory symbols or objects commonly used to add information to your drawing.
  • Annotation objects provide information about a feature, such as the length of a wall, the diameter of a fastener, or a detail callout. Typically, annotation objects are scaled differently than the views of the drawing, and depend on the scale of how they should appear when plotted.
  • You can control the method that an annotation object is scaled by defining the object either as non-annotative or annotative.
  • Non-annotative objects, require a fixed size or scale that is calculated based on the scale used to plot the drawing.
  • Annotative objects automatically adjust to display uniformly at the same size or scale regardless of the scale of the view.

ANNOTATION SCALES:

  • Annotation scale is used to determine text height or the overall scale of an annotation object.
  • The approach used to calculate an annotation scale depends on whether the object is placed in model space or on a layout.
  • When annotation objects are created in model space, the following must be considered:
  • Drawing or plot scale if plotting from model space.
  • Viewport scale of a layout viewport if plotting from a paper space layout.
  • The text height or scale of an annotation object in model space can be set to a fixed text height or be controlled by assigning the object an annotation scale. Annotation objects assigned a fixed text height or object scale remain proportionate in size to the current plot or viewport scale.
  • If the annotative property of an annotation object is enabled, the text height or scale of the annotation object adjusts based on the current drawing annotation or layout viewport scale with the result that it will remain at the same size automatically.
  • Annotation objects created in paper space on a layout should be created at full size because layouts are commonly plotted at a 1:1 scale. For example, text created with a height of 1/8” in paper space will be output at 1/8” unless a scale other than 1:1 is used to plot the layout.

TEXT:

  • There are two types of Text – Single line and Multiline Text

Single line Text:

  • You can use single-line text to create one or more lines of text, where each text line is an independent object that you can move, format, or otherwise modify.
  • Right-click in the text box to select options on the shortcut menu. While you are in the TEXT command:
  • Click elsewhere in a drawing to start a new set of rows of single-line text
  • Press Tab or Shift+Tab to move forward and back between the sets of single-line text
  • Press Alt and click a text object to edit a set of text lines
  • Once you leave the TEXT command, these actions are no longer available.

Multiline Text:

  • For longer notes and labels with internal formatting, use multiline text.
  • Click Home tab-Annotation panel-Multiline Text.
  • Specify opposite corners of a bounding box to define the width of the multiline text object.
  • If the ribbon is active, the Text Editor contextual tab displays.
  • If the ribbon is not active, the Text Formatting toolbar displays.
  • Note: The MTEXTTOOLBAR system variable controls the display of the Text Formatting toolbar.
  • Specify the initial formatting.
  • To indent the first line of each paragraph, drag the first-line indent slider on the ruler. To indent the other lines of each paragraph, drag the hanging indent slider.
  • To set tabs, click the ruler where you want a tab stop.
  • To change the current text style, select the desired text style from the drop-down list.
  • Enter the text.
  • Note: While typing, the text may be displayed horizontally and at a legible size.
  • To change individual characters, words, or paragraphs, highlight the text and specify the formatting changes.
  • Note: SHX fonts do not support boldface or italics.
  • To save your changes and exit the editor, use one of the following methods: On the Text Editor ribbon contextual tab, in the Close panel, click Close Text Editor.

  1. AIM:

To create a column schedule using AutoCAD as shown in the figure.

Procedure:

  • Initially set the units as Engineering (feet and inches)
  • There are five columns as shown in figure i.e. is C1, C1a, C2, C2a, C3
  • The column C1 contains 4 no's of 20mm dia bars and 6 no.s of 12mm dia bars; column C1a contains 12 no's of 16mm dia bars; column C2 contains 8 no's of 20mm dia bars; column C2a contains 8 no's of 16mm dia bars; column C3 contains 12 no's of 16mm dia bars;
  • Stirrups are having bar dia of 8mm placed at a c/c spacing of 3” near the ends and 8” at the middle
  • First, we create a table by drawing a rectangle of 60’x20’ and then explode it
  • By using offset command: offset the 20’ line by taking offset at a distance of 5’ and then offset the 60’ line at a distance of 4’ from the bottom and 2’ from the top
  • Trim off the extra line using trim command
  • Now we enter the text line in the table by using single line text from the text drop down menu
  • Specify the point of text 8” and text angle as 0 degree
  • After entering the text, right click and select properties then list of properties will be shown and ensure that the text height is 8” and make justify as left
  • By using ‘ST’ command we can change the style of the text and select the font name a “romans.shx”
  • Insert all the text on the respective rows and columns
  • Give the heading as column schedule

A) For column C1 to draw a rectangle of 9”x24” having 20mm dia reinforcement at 4 corners and 12mm dia 6 reinforcement bars in between connected by 8mm stirrup

  • Now we draw a rectangle using rectangle command with dimensions in the command box
  • By using offset command: give an offset distance of 0.5” which will be the cover of concrete
  • Explode the inner rectangle using explode command
  • Now we draw the reinforcements
  • By using circle command: selecting tan tan radius and give radius of 0.4”
  • Using the mirror command create the reinforcement on the bottom left side of column by giving plane as the midpoint of the 2’ line and click on NO for erase source object
  • Now for the reinforcement of 12mm dia bars 6 in numbers
  • Create a circle of radius of 0.2” using circle command
  • Now copy the circle using the top of the circle as the base point and place it on the points created by object snap
  • Place all the 3 circles on each divided point and then delete the points created by object snap
  • Create the similar circles on the right side by using the mirror command
  • Now we draw the stirrups:
  • Connect the reinforcement 6mm with 1st row and 2nd row from top and bottom and the 3rd row from the bottom
  • Connect them as tangents of two circles
  • Now fillet the corners of the column with radius as 0.5”
  • Now using the donut command fill the circles
  • Specify the inner dia as 0 and outer dia as 0.8” for the corner reinforcement and 0.5” for the inside reinforcement
  • Specify the center of donut and fill the circles
  • Mark “a” for in between reinforcement to indicate it as 12mm diameter

 B) Now for drawing column C1a  of 9”x24” having 16mm dia of 12 reinforcement bars in between connected by 8mm stirrup
