CREATING VARIOUS 3D MODELS LIKE FURNITURE, FOOTING, GIRDER, COLUMN DROP WITH PANEL AND GABLE WALL IN AUTOCAD

INTRODUCTION:

  • 3D modelling is the process of creating three-dimensional representations of an object or a surface. During the 3D modelling process, you can determine an object's size, shape, and texture.
  • 3D offers a quick, easy and immediate way for designers to test paint colours, landscaping choices and interior design features. Your designer can even work their magic while you’re still waiting for approval from the planning committee.
  • With 3D laser scanning, professionals can also use data sets to create pin-point models of real spaces, giving you precise models without the time spent measuring and re-measuring structures or sites. More time saved! Additionally, the entire design is in one place; no shuffling through blueprints to find the section you’re looking for: simply navigate to the location or room you’d like to see.
  • 3D models act as a virtual, to-scale replica of your project giving you the ability to test stress factors and tolerances before committing to a design. Architects and engineers can test what-if scenarios, checking for every possible issue. Errors large and small can more easily be spotted and rectified in the digital environment.
  • The visual nature of 3D models also makes clear instructions on finding key design information less necessary meaning no need to translate reams of how to text for your international team members, investors or clients.

AUTOCAD 3D commands include:

  • EXTRUDE (EXT) – The EXTRUDE command will extrude a 2D object into a 3D object. When using the EXTRUDE command, the original 2D object will be removed from the drawing.
  • PRESSPULL (PRESS) – The PRESSPULL command will extrude a 2D object into a 3D object, or extend a 3D surface. When using the PRESSPULL command with a 2D object, the 2D object will remain in the drawing.
  • BOX – The BOX command will allow you to create a 3D box by selecting 3 points in the X, Y, and Z axes.
  • 3DMOVE (3M) – The 3DMOVE command will allow you to move an object in either the X, Y, or Z-axis.
  • 3DROTATE (3R) – The 3DROTATE command will allow you to rotate an object about the X, Y, or Z axes.
  • 3DPOLYLINE (3DPOLY) – The 3DPOLYLINE command will allow you to create a polyline with points that can exist in the X, Y, and Z axes.
  • UNION (UNI) – The UNION command will allow you to join separate 3D objects into one.
  • SUBTRACT (SU) – The SUBTRACT command will allow you to subtract 3D objects from another 3D object.
  • SLICE (SL) – The SLICE command will allow you to create a joint through a 3D solid.

1. AIM: To create a 3D Furniture element as shown in the Figure. Assume dimensions which are missing.

COMMANDS USED: Line, Rectangle, UCS, Dimension linear, Region, Extrude, Box, Subtract, Units, 3Dface, 3D orbit, Move, Copy, Explode etc.,

PROCEDURE:

  • Initially open the AutoCAD and go to 3D modelling settings and change the workspace to 3D modelling
  • Now set the units as Architectural(feet and inches)
  • Now, uisng the line command draw the box structure
  • Specify the first point as 0',0',0'
  • Specify the next point as @0',0',2'6"
  • Specify the next point as @0',3',0'
  • Specify the next point as @0',0',-2'6" and then close it
  • Now convert this rectangle into region by using region command
  • Then extrude this rectangle at a height of 2'
  • Now, choose line command and draw the inner rectangle
  • Convert this rectangle into region and extrude at a height of 1'10"
  • Now, using the subtract command, subtract the inner rectangle from the outer rectangle and make it hidden
  • Now add the dimensions using dimlinear command and make it realsitic

2. AIM: To create a 3D model of an isolated footing as shown in the Figure.

  • Now, uisng the rectangle command draw the box rectangle of 3'x3'
  • Convert this rectangle into region and extrude at a height of 6"
  • Again, draw a rectangle from the center of the outer rectangle of 1'x1'
  • Move the rectangle using move command at aheight of 2'
  • Now, join the four corners of the moved rectangle four corners of extruded rectangle to co-ordinate eachother
  • Make it hidden and give the dimensions using dimension linear command

3. AIM: To create the 3D view of the AASTHO type Girder as shown in the Figure.

  • Click on front view, use UCS command and make x- axis and y-axis in the front view plane
  • Now using line command draw an I section as given in the figure and change the view
  • Convert this figure into a region and extrude at height of 10'
  • Now make the visibility to hidden
  • With the use of UCS command and dimension linear command add the dimensions

4. AIM: To create the 3D model of a drop column with panel as shown in section and isometric view

  • Using line command draw a square having a side of 4'6" in the SW view
  • Convert it into a region and extrude it at a height of 6"
  • Change it into hidden

  • Now, draw circle of diameter 3'6" using UCS command
  • Convert the circle into region and extrude it with tapering of 45 degree angle and height of 1'
  • Explode the top portion and convert it into region and extrude it at a height of 10'
  • Now change its view to shaded
  • Use 3D orbit to change the view in required direction
  • Now change the view to right and give dimnesions uisng UCS and dimension linear command

5. AIM: To create the 3D model of a wall as shown in figure

  • Now choose the line command and make the workspace to SW direction and draw the outline of the wall as given in figure
  • Draw the door of the wall using line command by initially marking the center of the bottom line and take 1'6" on both sides and height of 7'
  • Now, convert this into a region and extrude at distanc of 6" which makes the wall thickness
  • Subtract the door portion from the wall using subtract commanda nd amke it hidden
  • Dimensions is given by using UCS comamnd and dimension linear command

RESULT: The following are different 3d models drawn as per the given figures
