TITLE: YATCH

OBJECTIVES

1.To model and assemble Yatch in SOLIDWORKS.

2.To understand how to use all the properties in SOLIDWORKS.

3.To know how to do rendering for the perfect outcome.

INTRODUCTION

Yatch is a superyatch which made of different characteristic features like fillet, extrude, chamfer, swept, cut extrude, and more others.

We have different components which are drawn separately with each other.

After designing all parts, we assemble the model and then we do render to complete our design with the best outcome.

COMPONENTS

1.Hull

2.Propeller

3.Rear seat

4.Middle seat

5.Radar

6.Radarmast

7.Superstructure

8.Front seat

9.Garage body

DESCRIPTION

The SOLIDWORKS is the software that helps the designers to put their ideas or thoughts to reality. This software provides features and dimensions and also it gives a lot of detailed drawings.

SOLIDWORKS documents windows have two panels. the left panel, Manager panel.

Feature manager tree: display the structure of the parts, assembly, or drawings. select an item from the feature manager design tree or edit the underling sketch, edit the feature, suppress and unsuppressed the feature or component.

Property manager:  gives us the settings for many functions as fillet features, sketches and mates.

FEATURE MANAGE TREE                                 PROPERTY MANAGER

DESIN APPROACH METROLOGY:

Here we have a flow chat that shows the components of Yatch:

The following are features and properties used in designing the model:

EXTRUDE BOSS: Extrude boss is the feature which is used mostly to convert 2D sketch into 3D sketch.

EXTRUDE CUT: This one it helps to remove the unwanted material according to your desired shape.

FILLET AND CHAMFER:

Fillet is the feature that gives the smooth edges according to your dimension of radius and a chamfer also is similar to fillet there are both applies features they don’t need a sketch but creates beveled face.

FILLET

CHAMFER

SHELL: By shell we manage to remove a material from the inner body but we leave a small thickness and come up with a hallow model. Also, it can be opened or closed hallow depending at your choice.

REVOLVE BOSS FEATURE: First is a must to draw an axis in a sketch to be revolved, here by revolving feature we create a sketch around an axis.

MIRROR: We use this feature to make a twin material which means to the same exact material without drawing again, it is so helpful not to waste time.

SWEEP BOSS AND SWEEP CUT: By sweep we create base, boss, cut, or surface by moving a section along a path according to these rules, the profile(section) must be closed for a base or boss sweep feature.

SWEEP BOSS

SWEEP CUT

LINEAR PATTER FEATURE: This feature is used to make a multiple shape based on the first created shape, it requires how many numbers of instances, distance between each other and which direction you want.

PROJECTED CURVE FEATURE: Here by this feature you can project a curve onto a model face to create a 3D sketch also, a 3D curve can be created by representing the intersection of two extruded surface generated by creating sketches on the two intersecting planes. You can

create multiple closed or open contour projected curves from a single sketch. 3D can be used as a projected curve tool and projected curve does not support projections of intersecting curves.

LOFT: This feature creates transitions between two or more sketch profile and by creating a loft the sketch profile must reside on different planes.

SKETCH:

The following are different sketches we use when we are drawing to come up with any desirable shape, there is circle, different type of rectangle, oval, line and more also there is convert entities which help to make intersection between two lines and offset also a trim whim help to cut unwanted lines, we also have smart dimension which helps to give dimensions to the material for it to have any size you want.

REFERNCE GEOMETRY: It defines the shape or a solid of the surface.it has different features like pane, axes, co-ordinate system and point which are used differently depending on what is needed in the sketch.

The following is the summary of how these components are drawn the features used and all the detail about it:

PROPELLER

Propeller is the first component I designed. It is not complicated it’s just few features and properties I used like revolve, loft, fillet, cut extrude and patter with a help of some sketches.

RADAR

Radar is the second component also its wasn’t hard to draw I used fillet, cut and boss extrude, sketch pattern with the help of sketches and after I did mirror to come with this radar.

HULL

Hull is the most interesting part to design which wasn’t easy but not much complicated, it has a lot of different parts on it which need to be  sketched with dimensions and those includes small windows I can say, balcony, outside part of engine, stairs and more parts and all of them, they need specific features and properties with different dimensions I used both cut and boss extrude, revolve, sweep, fillet, chamfer, curve, spin line, pattern, planes, delete face and with different sketches and 3D sketches, desk surface and mirror of some parts I was able to come up with HULL as a design.

GARAGE BODY

Garage body was also not complicated to design it was easy I needed few features cut-extrude, shell, plane, fillet, and mirror and I wrote those words with the help of text as a sketch entity.

FRONT SEAT

This is a front seat, it was made of a lot of features like fillet, chamfer, surface-loft, surface-knit, surface-fill, dome, surface-trim, surface-extrude, cut-extrude thin, surface-sweep, plane, revolve, and with sketches and mirror I designed front seat.

MIDDLE SEAT

Middle seat it is not hard to design and it has a table in the middle which is also not hard to draw it just needs few features like boss-extrude, cut-extrude, plane, fillet, chamfer, and different sketches to which all these features are going to work on. After we need to mirror the seat to have a proper outcome.

REAR SEAT

Front seat is another part of yatch I designed separately it is made of few different parts we have flag there, two doors a side I can say, the place to put a drink, a place to keep things and I used boss-extrude, sweep, revolve, surface-fill, fillet, chamfer and with help of sketches I was able to design this rear seat.

SUPERSTRUCTURE

Superstructure is another interesting design which also has a lot of different parts on it and it was kind challenging. It is made up of windows, stairs, door, and windshield wiper, and more other parts. I used to boss-extrude, cut-extrude, surface-trim, surface-loft, surface-knit, surface-sweep, surface-extrude, ruled-surface, curve, surface-extend, surface-offset, dome, extrude-thin, fillet, chamfer, mirror and with the sketches also 3Dsketch which also helped to use above features.

RADAR-MAST

Radar-mast was my last design it wasn’t complicated I used mirror to come up with the perfect design and other features were boss-extrude, shell, revolve, fillet, plane, sweep, chamfer and mirror as I said and the sketches which I used to be able to use these features.

ASSEMBLY

By doing assembly we want to put all parts in their positions so that we able to have the whole design according to our desire.

Here I can say we need a help of mate to join some parts but some parts like hull, superstructure, radar-mast, front seat, middle seat were joined automatically there were no need of mate. Also, some other parts like rear seat, radar, propeller we used mate and some dimensions. So, I started with hull the second was superstructure next was front seat, next middle seat, and rear seat came after by doing mate, next was garage door followed by propeller and the last I assembled was radar and all the need mate to be assembled. So, by doing assemble is the way you can put all parts together and come up with a full complete design.

MATES

Mates create relationship between the assembly components, we have concentric which force two cylindrical component to become concentric and coincident which forces two planar forces to become coplanar and mates are solved at the same time it doesn’t matter how you add them also you can suppress mates.

 RENDERING

So rendering is the last step to make the yatch look realistic. Here we try all the means to make it looks much good, we use different background to see which is the best, changing the brightness, shadow density, gamma levels depending to the background changings and also changing of colors to see which is the best until we are satisfied.
