Introduction:

A fender is the curved portion of the car's body that sits over and houses the wheels. The purpose of a fender is pretty simple. Its purpose is to keep mud, rocks, and other road debris from being thrown around by the tires. In other words, the fender is a housing for the wheels that keeps road debris contained. If there was nothing covering the wheels, all kinds of debris would be kicked up by the rotating tires.

The fender not only protects your car from sustaining damage from road debris but it prevents this debris from being thrown up at other vehicles on the road. This is why vehicles with large, oversized tires are often required by law to install fender flares.

There are two types of fenders. Full bumper type and half bumper type. Most commonly half bumper type is used as it is easy to produce and economical.

Design of fender:

There are 5 mounting points for fender; Drip area, Sill area, A-pillar mounting, bumper mounting, Splash cover.

To design a fender following master file is used to create drip area.

Fender is designed in NX CAD by considering 0.75mm thickness of panel. Outer surface is received and imported in NX to create mounting points.

-Drip Area:

-A pillar mount area

-Sill Area:

-Bumper mount area:

-Splash cover mount:

FINAL FENDER DESIGN

Mounting parts are created by providing embosses on the extended flange. Gussets provided at some points to increase the strength of the mount.

Conclusion:

From the given master section, the Drip area for fender mounting is designed. Also, other mounting points are designed as per requirement and manufacturing ability.
