All About Series Hybrid Vehicles

A hybrid vehicle has two power sources for motion within the same vehicle. Basically, the hybrid vehicle is split into two types supported by the source for propulsion - combustion engine type and Hydrogen power cell. There are different combinations which are utilized in the hybrid vehicle like Gas-electric, Diesel-electric combinations. The ICtype is widely used in which IC engine, battery, motor and generator. Moreover, it's divided into 3 types:

Series Hybrid Vehicles

A series hybrid is essentially a hybrid-powered vehicle with a simple drive train configuration which uses a battery to power the motor so as to run the wheels. The series hybrid vehicle diagram model is shown in the figure below.

 

 

This figure shows the essential block connections within the series of hybrid vehicle. It operates when the fuel tank sends fuel/gas to the engine and therefore the engine uses it to power itself and the power the generator and also the generator converts the mechanical to electrical charges the battery using a charger. The battery pack takes the energy received from the engine and sends it to the controllers which, in turn, control the voltage sent to the motors and inverter circuit based on the sort of motor used n the vehicle.

Finally the motor which is powered is connected to the wheels via train for driving the vehicle. The engine is responsible just for the charging the battery so the vehicle can move with or without the engine running. and therefore the motor is to blame for the acceleration of the vehicle. Typically there's no mechanical connection between an engine and wheels of the vehicle. This technique is intended to work at the most efficient and desired speed and cargo.

Advantages of Series Hybrid Vehicle

 

 

The series hybrid may be a simple system with no complexity in connection.

Multispeed transmission, clutch or converters aren't required since the electrical motor directly drives the power train for movement.

It operates as a pure Electric vehicle which runs on the battery source.

It helps to cut back harmful gas emissions and promotes an eco-friendly environment.

Disadvantages of Series Hybrid Vehicle

The series hybrid vehicle propulsion is entirely dependant on the battery source.

The energy conversions happening in each stage end up in an efficiency loss.

All these propulsion devices have to be sized to sustain maximum power requirements. In case of long gradeability conditions the performance of the vehicle is poor. Therefore the powerful motor is required at this example making the Series HEV, expensive.

This system may require a battery and motor with a large capacity to fulfil its power needs which adds to the burden of the vehicle and it decreases the general practice range of the vehicle. And this makes it undesirable for consumers to use.

It is recommended mostly for brief trips as commuting to figure and shopping the corresponding IC engine set with lower power rating is employed.

Due to the major disadvantages of the series hybrid vehicles, parallel hybrid and series-parallel combinations are introduced.
